Changing landscapes: After The Storm

In 2005, Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf Coast and destroyed parts of Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama. As the storm hit the coasts, the water took over the landscapes, flooding parts of Biloxi MS, and 85% of New Orleans, LA. The higher parts of New Orleans escaped with minor damage. However, the city's Upper and Lower Ninth Ward, sandwiched between Lake Pontchartrain and the Mississippi River, were hit hard. These areas were severely flooded when the levees that protect New Orleans were breached causing homes and entire neighborhoods to be completely wiped out. Katrina left much destruction and devastation and was one of the most tragic natural disasters to occur in the United States.
